Find Work Wednesday – On the Road Jobs !

Did you know that truck driving jobs are essential for life as we know it in this Nation? Inventory may cross the ocean by boat, some of it may travel by train, but most products reach your local stores by truck. In order to drive an eighteen wheeler, you need a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). You can receive a CDL by attending an independent CDL school, by going to a college or trade school, or by being trained by one of the actual trucking companies. In many cases, military veterans can attend CDL School for free by using their GI Bill. This is good because the discipline and attention to detail taught in the military will help them be more effective.  Truck driving jobs require a lot of discipline and there are many laws you will have to be aware of as a truck driver.

Truck driving jobs can be appealing for many reasons such as being able to work alone and not being stuck in an office all day; not required to wear a uniform; and being able to earn a decent income and travel the country at the same time.  In addition, others would like to be business owners and look forward to the day when they can be owner-operators and own their own trucks. Truck driving jobs provide people with the potential to have good jobs without college degrees.

If you are interested in a truck driving job for any of these or other reasons then check out this week’s Find Work Wednesday – On the Road Jobs !  Positions and thousands of other positions for military affiliated applicants can be found at our Job Seeker’s page.  The first five opportunities can be found by clicking on “Search for Openings with MSCCN”. Comprehensive vets bill heads to the White House – President is expected to sign the bill into law later this month.

Posted on Updated on

Congress finalized work on the “The Honoring America’s Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act” on Tuesday, sending the measure to the White House to be signed into law.  Most of the focus on the legislation has centered on provisions to provide for the first time VA health care to families who were exposed to contaminated well water at the North Carolina military facility.

But the sweeping legislation also includes other provisions that could provide new benefits to a wide range of veterans, and represents one of the few major pieces of legislation to work its way through Congress this year. Highlights:
■Rural veterans: Co-payments for veterans using using online or other remote health care programs would be eliminated. The department will also look into the providing travel reimbursements to veterans seeking care at distant vet centers.
■Sexual assault: Creates new tracking and reporting policies to monitor sexual assaults that occur at VA facilities.
■Traumatic brain injury: The bill creates new individualized rehabilitation and reintegration services for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans with TBI.
■Adaptive housing: VA’s program for specially adapted housing will be expanded to include housing grants for veterans with lower limb loss and vision problems, and the VA will revise how additional monies are counted against those veteran’s grant maximums.
■ VA home loans: Surviving spouses will be eligible for VA home loan guarantees for 10 years after the death of a veteran. Also, the fee for the home loan program will be waived for disabled servicemembers.
■Funeral protests: Prohibits demonstrators from picketing any military funeral two hours before or after the service, and requires those protestors be at least 300 feet away from the grieving families.
