In addition to providing job security, these industries are a perfect fit for veterans and allow them to apply many of the skills obtained in the military to the civilian workforce.
Do to an increasingly aging population which fuels demand in this field these careers should stay in demand for years to come. Healthcare is America’s largest occupational group, with more than 12 million jobs. According to the US Department of Labor’s Career Guide to Industries, healthcare employmentis projected to increase 28 percent through 2012. In addition, many of the jobs will be within the federal government, which already employs more than 140,000 healthcare workers. In addition, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans Administration (VA) is the government’s largest healthcare employer with more than 225,000 personnel providing direct medical care and support for the nation’s veterans. Also, the Department of Health and Human Services employs large numbers of healthcare workers, while the Army, Navy and Air Force hire civilian medical personnel to augment hospital staffs worldwide.
