The US military is arguably the best-trained workforce in the world, and personnel who leave military service have skills that translate to virtually any career. Former members of the military have worked with some of the most advanced technology in the world. They can use that hands-on experience in a civilian capacity as an IT professional.

IT recruiters want and need applicants especially if you will be transiting out of the military soon and/or have been out a short period of time. Special note if you need IT continuing education (FREE) courses then check out the Veterans Technology Program which is a non-credit certificate program offered by the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University. This no cost program is available to both employed and unemployed, post-9/11 veterans with a minimum of a high school diploma, and is comprised of four certificates. The courses are delivered entirely online, enabling veterans to participate from any location and access their coursework at any time. US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, details that “Computer scientists and database administrators are expected to be among the fastest growing occupations through 2014.” In addition to enjoying a demand for your services, you can also exercise your entrepreneurial side as an IT specialist and become a certified contractor. Some of the top careers in the Information Technology jobs industry are Network Manager, Data Modeler, and Web Developer.
